Mike Barnes

PT, MPT, OCS – Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist

Hello, I’m Mike Barnes, PT, MPT, OCS and founder/owner of Phase 4 Physiotherapy. I have a total of over 28 years of patient care experience and have been in private practice orthopedic physical therapy in San Antonio since 2001. I have been a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist since 2002 and have personally seen over 60000 patient visits. As a young man only a year out of high school, while stationed in San Vito, Italy with the USAF, I worked as an EMT/Medical Technician at the 7275th ABG’s Primary Care Clinic. It was during my enlistment while working closely with physicians and nurses that I began to desire a more prominent role as a health care provider. I earned my Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1999 and completed 5/6 of the classes required for the DPT from The MGH Institute of Health Professions. I was unable to complete the DPT secondary to business and family demands, so as I say with tongue in cheek, “I guess you can refer to me as ‘Master’ Barnes if you must.” I have also received advanced training in various schools of thought pertaining to Physical/Manual Therapy to include study at The Manual Therapy Institute in San Marcos, Texas and have a gentle and eclectic approach that has proven to be very beneficial to my patients over the years. I look forward to serving you in any way I can!

A Physical Therapist
Can Help You Be Your Best

Have you ever wondered what a physical therapist does or how they can help you?

Here’s a short story showing just one way a physical therapist can help you be your best and get back to the things you love.

Physiotherapy Success Stories

“My experience with Mike Barnes and Barnes Phase 4 Physiotherapy exceeded any expectations I had prior to beginning therapy. I have done physical therapy in the past for my lower back pain, with minimal to no improvement. Mike and every staff member were great at stressing the importance of the exercises both on-site and especially at home. After 2-3 weeks of staying consistent with home therapy and office visits, I noticed improvement and felt less back pain. Of course, therapy doesn’t happen overnight, there were days that the pain was as bad as before beginning therapy. It is evident how important the exercises they teach and instruct you to perform are. The expenses for this therapy was well worth it and within a budget for a graduate student with no income. Being a graduate student requires hours and hours a day sitting and studying which comes with terrible lower back and frequent sciatic nerve symptoms. This really starts playing a role in my everyday life. After beginning therapy, and taking study breaks to exercises, I started noticing a difference in when I was sitting/studying all day long. I want to especially stress how friendly and encouraging each team member at Barnes Phase 4 Physiotherapy is. You will be in great hands doing physical therapy with this team.”

-Carson Gee

“I came for PT because of backache. I had taught for years with smaller children and pushed my husband’s wheelchair-all led to poor posture. Since my exercises, I find that I stand straight up and that bending forward as I do in quilting is not such a problem. I feel that you definitely met my needs and will continue to exercise at home. yes, you were accessible – Medicare and BCBS – and also physically – your stairs were great! I can now walk both up and down one step after the other, not step and step like I had been doing. Your therapist are kind and thoughtful and concerned about my pain. You were all wonderful.”

-Judy Hanson

“I was having pain in my back and leg, after therapy, I can now climb stairs pain-free. I also have better and pain-free movement of my right shoulder, I think Mary Jo and I have met all of your staff and we wish to thank each of them for their courteous and professional care given to each of us. Should I ever need help in the future, I’ll come to Barnes Phase 4 Physiotherapy. Thanks! ”
